Webster's technique is a specific chiropractic technique for treating pregnant women. Proper chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy, on its own, is often very beneficial for a pregnant mother. Properly aligned pelvic bones help keep pelvic muscles loose, allowing the surrounding nerves to transmit their messages without interference.
Webster’s technique is a specifically developed technique that goes one step further. It is a technique that balances the pelvis properly and also reduces the stress to the ligaments supporting the pelvis, named the round ligaments. The round ligaments suspend the uterus within the abdomen. In the later stages of pregnancy, the round ligaments can become thin and tight, like a stretched rubber band. This can cause sharp pain and is thought to restrict the space within the womb.
A doctor of chiropractic, Larry Webster, developed Webster’s technique after watching his own daughter go through a long, painful labour with a baby in the breech position. All of our chiropractors at Curl Curl Chiropractic are qualified in Webster’s technique, and will often use the technique most days in practice.
